What category does your project fall into?

Review the questions in each column below to help you determine which category best fits your project.

Research

Does your work primarily involves basic and/or applied research activities?

Does your work primarily involve development of ideas, processes, theories, etc.?

Do the activities include inquiry, experiments, or investigation to increase the scholarly understanding of the involved discipline?

Does your project includes data collection, evaluation, and/or analysis?

Does the project include systematic collection of qualitative or quantitative data in order to evaluate curricula, teaching methods, or program operations?

Will this funding support the writing of books for the purpose of publishing research results?

Will this funding go towards maintenance of facilities or equipment and/or operation of a center or facility which will be used for research?

Does the project include training of individuals in research techniques where the activities utilize the same facilities as other research and development activities?

Will this funding support  graduate student doctoral dissertation activities? This funding may include funds for travel in relation to the dissertation?

Will this funding support projects involving ASU students in community service activities for which they WILL receive academic credit?

Is the purpose of your project to instruct ASU faculty, students or staff?

Is the purpose of your project to instruct teachers or students in elementary or secondary schools?

Is the purpose of your project to train public/private managers or administrators on  management tools, processes, procedures?

Is the purpose of your project to instruct the general public?

Is the training or instruction being given structured for a specific individual or group of individuals to meet a sponsor's specific agenda or outcomes?

Is the training or instruction based on previously developed materials and methods and requires no significant revision for use with a specific audience?

Will this be an award to a department, school, or college for the support of students?

Will this funding support the writing of textbooks, reference books, videos, or software to be used as instructional materials?

Will this program bring individuals on campus for ASU-sponsored classes?

Does the project develop or launch curricula?

Will this funding support the training or initiate the career of a pre- or post-doctoral that leads to a Ph.D. or equivalent research degree?

Does the opportunity solicitation describe purpose of the program is to support “training grants”?
