Content Introduction:
Medusa is a tool that allows you to display and navigate between all the related modules in Coeus. It allows you to display all proposals funding a given award, all awards being funded by a given proposal, and subcontracts associated with an award.
It provides a consistent view of the relationship between all modules no matter where you open Medusa from. It also displays summary information about each related proposal, award, and subcontract, and allows you to open any of them directly from within its interface.
Medusa can also be opened using drop-down menus. When viewing search results, or when a proposal is open, it can be found on the Edit drop-down menu. When viewing an award, it can be found on the Details drop-down menu.
Accessing Medusa
Medusa is available when you are viewing search results in the Proposal and Award modules, or when you have a proposal or award open. In these cases, you'll know it's available because you will see the shortcut button on the toolbar:
It can also be found in the Subcontracts module on the Funding Source tab and in the Award module on the Money and End Dates tab. In these cases, it is on the tab itself as a normal button:
Hierarchy of Related Entities
No matter where you open Medusa from, it will always function the same way. The left side of the screen shows the relationship between proposals, awards, and subcontracts in a hierarchy. These are all related to the proposal or award that was selected or open when you opened Medusa. That proposal or award is highlighted in the hierarchy. The icons to the left of each number help you determine if it's a proposal, award, or subcontract.

You can use the radio buttons at the top to change the way the hierarchy displays. When the Proposal --> Award radio button is selected, the hierarchy will appear as it does below, with the proposal(s) at the top level and the award(s) that stemmed from them below. Subcontracts are always listed below the award the funds them.

When the Award --> Proposal radio button is selected, the hierarchy will appear as it does below, with the award(s) at the top level and the proposal(s) they came from below. Subcontracts are always listed below the award the funds them.

Summary Information
The right side of the window displays summary information about the item selected at the left. This is the default view, which can be turned on or off by choosing View > Summary from the menu bar or clicking on the summary button:

Displaying Entities in the Hierarchy
One of most convenient features of Medusa is that you can open any member in the hierarchy directly from Medusa. To open a member of the hierarchy, select it and then choose View > Display from the menu bar or click on the shortcut button:
The Medusa window will remain open in the background. You can access it again by closing the window that was opened or by clicking on the Medusa shortcut button again.
Award Hierarchy
You can also access the Coeus Award Hierarchy feature directly within Medusa. Select an award at the left, then click on the Award Hierarchy shortcut button:

The award hierarchy will display at the right. To open an award in the hierarchy at the right, click on the Display Award button. To re-orient Medusa to focus on an award selected at the right, click on the Medusa button. To view details about an award selected at the right, check the Show Details button.
