Tattoo Identification of Research Animals
The video footage and still photos on this website show the ease and humaneness of tattooing even very small rodents as well as larger, older animals.
For identification of neonatal mice and other small animals, a specific pattern of toe and footpad spots are used.
For larger animals, actual numbers and letters can be tattooed at select skin sites.
For more information on having your research animals tattooed, please contact the Department of Animal Care & Technologies.
