1. I can't launch Coeus because there is no icon on my desktop.
The installer creates an icon on the desktop. If the icon is not there, you can launch Coeus from the Coeus 4 Install Page.
It is possible to remove an icon from the desktop. If the icon is missing but Coeus is installed, create an Internet Explorer bookmark to the Coeus 4 Install Page.
2. How do I install Coeus?
Use Internet Explorer to connect to the Download page and follow the directions there.
Technical note on installation from the web:
Different versions of Internet explorer behave slightly differently. With IE you can either run from the web or download the executable file to a temp directory and run it from there. With Netscape you download and run.
3. How do I get set up to use Coeus?
In addition to having the Coeus client on your computer, you must be defined as a user in Coeus. Contact your supervisor or the Coeus Administrator to request access to Coeus.
4. What is my Coeus user ID?
Your user ID will be your ASURITE ID.
5. What is my password?
Your password will be your ASURITE password.
6. Help! I forgot my password.
If you have forgotten your password, use your unit's support procedures to change your ASURITE password. Coeus does not use another password separate from your ASURITE password.
7. How do I know I am connecting to the right database?
The bottom field on the logon dialog box selects the database to which you will connect.

8. After I am connected, how do I know which database I am using?
The name of the database appears in the title bar of the window.

9. What if I don't have the right databases listed on the logon screen?
The list of choices of databases on the logon dialog box is controlled by the Coeus configuration. The installer configures Coeus so that the appropriate database option(s) appear in the drop-down list.
10. I can't logon to Coeus. An error message tells me "invalid username/password"?

The user ID and password are not valid. Make sure you are using your ASURITE username and password. This is the same username and password you likely use to log on to your workstation or access custom features on www.asu.edu.
Try to connect again, being careful to type your user ID & password correctly (no Caps Lock).
If you have been set up as a Coeus user, you should still be able to log into Coeus, but not be able to view things, not having a user role. Talk to the Coeus Administrator if this is the case.
This error could be a symptom of a larger database problem. If the Coeus Administrator is unable to fix the problem, report it to the Help Desk (5-6500), which creates a problem report that is assigned to the support staff on duty. Since this message indicates a database irregularity, a DBA will need to make repairs to the database.
11. When I try to connect to Coeus from off-campus, I get a firewall error.

The User name and password entered on the SecuRemote challenge screen was not valid. Try to connect again, be careful to type the name and password correctly (no Caps Lock).
Confirming Firewall Access
You can lookup your firewall permissions to confirm that you have appropriate firewall access to use Coeus at https://webmail.asu.edu/emma/
In the shaded block at the left, choose Change Password. In the next screen, enter your ASU ID (your 9-digit employee number, possibly your social security number). This is where you could change your ASURITE password, but if you enter your current ASURITE password, you will be able to see your current service subscriptions.
In the ASURITE Service Subscriptions page, you will see a table with your current subscriptions. In order to use the production Coeus application, you must have Admin Computing Access. If you have it, you will see:
![]()
In order to use CoeusQA (for testing of new versions) you will need to have access to the development server. If you have it, you will see:
![]()
Some services are self-subscription from the web. These services are not. If you don't have the necessary ASURITE Service Subscription, contact the Computer Accounts Office (http://www.asu.edu/it/fyi/accounts/).
12. I can log into Coeus, but I don't think I have appropriate access to the system functionality. For example, I think I should be able to edit units and sponsors, but I can only view; and I never deal with proposals but I have access to change them.
Contact your supervisor or the Coeus Administrator to determine if a change to your Coeus security profile is in order.
